THE BBC’S Electric Proms is no more, killed off by the corporation as part of its programme of cutbacks.

The Electric Proms was introduced in 2006 and featured hundreds of concerts across London.

It was seen as a rock ‘n’ roll version of the famous Proms, a two-month long series of classical music concerts.

Damon Albarn, James Brown, Neil Diamond (pictured), Sir Elton John, Oasis, Sir Paul McCartney and Nittin Sawhney all turned up for Electric Proms gigs in its five-year lifetime.
But last year the Electric Proms was scaled back and this year it won’t happen at all.

“In the current climate, we are faced with making difficult decisions, including how best to deliver high-quality live music programming throughout the year in light of continuing efficiency savings,” said Bob Shennan, Radio 2 controller.

“I’m disappointed that the lifetime of Electric Proms has come to an end.”
