Nothing so strange about that – the Babyshambles singer has been done for drugs offences at least 20 times – but on this occasion Doherty put in a “not guilty” plea.

Usually, he pleads “guilty”; a move which can lead to greater leniency from the Judge come sentencing time.

In the dock with Doherty on similar charges were Alan Wass and Peter Wolfe, both of whom also pleaded “not guilty”.

All three cases originate from the investigation into the death of film director Robyn Whitehead, who was making a movie about Doherty at the time of her drug-related death.

The cases have now been passed on to Snaresbrook Crown Court, where Doherty and company face trial on 29 March.
