Unfortunately, a neighbour’s stubborn chimney stack blocks the view of The Shard from my window, but I’ve still been able to see the lasers and lights fired from the new tallest building in London, as it practises for tonight’s (05.07.12) grand launch.
With a relatively clear evening predicted by weather experts, the light show should be visible for miles around, not least from London’s other high spots.
Sometime in the last century, LondonNet ran a feature on these vantage points. The usual suspects were there, such as Primrose Hill, St. Paul’s Cathedral and the London Eye, but we lamented the fact that London’s tall buildings were mostly “office blocks that allow views only to those whose business lies within”.
A (very) high five, too, to one building we moaned about in that old feature: Centre Point now has a bar anyone can drink in as long as they book in advance. Hopefully other tall buildings will join the club, though my neighbours still won’t let me sit on top of their chimney.
