HARRY POTTER fans hope the mysterious new Pottermore.com website, created by JK Rowling, is the comprehensive Potter encyclopedia the author has long promised.

So far, Rowling has refused to offer much in the way of clues as to what lies behind the home page, but she has given a sneak preview to trusted fans, including the editor of Harry Potter fansite HPANA.

“It is breathtaking in scope, detail and sheer beauty,” said the HPANA writer.

“Unfortunately that’s all I’m allowed to say right now, but rest assured there will be more news soon.”

Another fansite, The Leaky Cauldron, was similarly impressed, calling pottermore, “breathtaking”.

Fans have been waiting for Rowling to fulfil a promise she made a few years ago to write an official encyclopedia of Harry Potter’s world. In 2007 she said she had started on the tome and that “all the raw material is in my notes”.

There are rival rumours that the pottermore.com website is an online adventure game, or that it will feature clips from the new Potter film, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part II, out next month.

To keep up with the latest on pottermore, it’s worth keeping tabs on the site’s Twitter feed.
