Irene Smith, 69, wrote to Buckingham Palace after she heard about the Arise Sir Harry campaign, which encourages Portsmouth fans to back Harry for the top honour.
Irene has been a keen Portsmouth supporter all her life.
She said: “Harry has given us a gift. A lot of people are saying it will never happen, but I am the sort of person who likes to try.”
In her reply, the queen said she was interested to hear Irene’s reasons for nominating Harry, but added all knighthood nominations were received from the Prime Minister.
Explaining how excited she was to receive the letter, Irene said: “I was thrilled – I phoned my daughter straightaway.”
Portsmouth paper, The News, started the campaign. Last month a petition which was signed by more than 2,000 supporters was delivered to Downing Street.
