Prince Philip will snub the annual party for the Guards Polo Club, which he is president of.

The Cartier International Polo Day at the Guards Club in Windsor, England, is the biggest event of the season for the sport, but Philip is unlikely to attend this year as he doesn’t like the noise and the crowds who flock to the event.

The Polo Day was previously a rather exclusive event, but has become more commercialised in recent years, with retail areas and a marquee where London nightclub Chinawhite hosts a huge party.

Queen Elizabeth and Philip, 87, will attend the smaller Queen’s cup event at the club, but are rumoured to be missing the Cartier event.

An event insider said: “The queen will present her cup at Guards on Sunday, but she is cutting down other visits to Guards.

“The queen and prince Philip will not attend Cartier International Day this year. Prince Philip does not like the fact that the nightclub Chinawhite carries on well into the night and disturbs residents.”

Organisers of the event agreed to turn the music off at 11pm in 2007, after over 40 complaints about the noise from partying the year before.
