The prince met Mathilde and husband Crown Prince Philippe at the royal Belgian residence Laeken Castle, in capital city Brussels.
Mother-of-three Mathilde – who is expecting her fourth baby this Spring – looked delighted as the prince welcomed her with the affectionate greeting.
Charles arrived in Brussels on Wednesday (13.02.08), ahead of his speech on climate change to senior European Union figures at the European Parliament on Thursday.
The prince – who is dedicated to reducing his carbon footprint – travelled by public transport on a Eurostar train to his scheduled engagement in the capital.
He returned later on the same day so he could enjoy a romantic Valentine’s Day evening with his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. Charles’ mode of travel will be welcomed by green campaigners as public transport is considered the most environmentally-friendly way to travel.
