Peter – Queen Elizabeth’s eldest grandson – took his nine strong party, including his father Captain Mark Philips, to the Royal Oak pub for a few glasses of champagne before his wedding to Autumn Kelly began.

The aptly titled Royal Oak, near Windsor in Berkshire, England, is owned by former chat show host Michael Parkinson’s son Nick.

The groom and his party enjoyed glasses of champagne in the pub’s garden and played a trick on Andrew Tucker, one of the two best men, by removing the wedding rings from his coat when he went to the toilet.

A drinker at the pub told The Sun: “A look of horror spread across his face when he realised what was gone. After ten minutes letting him sweat they handed everything back.”

Another drinker said: “It shows something down to earth that Peter went out for a drink with his old man and his mates before getting wed.”

An hour later, Peter was at Windsor Castle’s St. George’s Chapel, where around 300 guests, including the queen, Prince Charles and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry, his girlfriend Chelsy Davy, and Prince Williams’ partner Kate Middleton saw them marry.

Peter’s sister, Zara Phillips, was one of the bridesmaids, who were dressed in strapless green dresses.
