The Princess Royal – who is president of the British Olympic Association – paid a visit to the Shatin Equestrian centre, which hosted the dressage part of the Equestrian competition at the Games.

Chairman of the London 2012 Olympic organising committee, Lord Sebastian Coe, joined the princess, along with her husband, Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence, and her son Peter with his new wife Autumn Kelly.

Both the princess and her son chose to don smart knee-length shorts for the
occasion, as temperatures at the venue rose to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Anne has a keen interest in the Equestrian contest – she represented Britain
at the 1976 Montreal games.

Her daughter, Zara, has followed in her footsteps and is a keen show jumper.

Zara – who is the reining world three-day eventing champion – was due to take part in the Beijing Olympics but was forced to withdraw after her horse, Toytown, was injured.

Princess Anne carried out a number of other meetings while in Hong Kong, including a visit to the Tuen Mun Public Riding School and one to staff at the British Council.
