Three officers on the 7/7 bombings investigation team have been arrested, accused of a series of offences linked to alleged misuse of their corporate credit cards.

“The officers, two of whom are based in a Specialist Operations unit and one of whom is based on an east London borough, were arrested in connection with a number of offences including misconduct in a public office, conspiracy to defraud, theft and false accounting,” said a spokesperson for the Met.

The accusations relate to when the three were in Leeds, following the trail of the 7/7 suicide bombers.

In an echo of MPs claiming cash for their wives and husbands, three members of the public, believed to be the relatives of the officers, were also arrested.

* The police are also being asked to look into claims the force used agent provocateurs in the G20 demonstrations last month.

Liberal democrat MP Tom Brake, who was at the G20 protests, plans to take the accusation up with the Met.

“When I was in the middle of the crowd, two people came over to me and said, ‘There are people over there who we believe are policemen and who have been encouraging the crowd to throw things at the police,'” said Brake.
