DEPECHE MODE hope to be back on song tomorrow night and for the London leg of their tour, despite Dave Gahan’s sudden illness.

The lead singer pulled out of the band’s show in Athens on Tuesday night at the last minute and a doctor later diagnosed gastroenteritis.

“I apologise on behalf of Dave and Depeche Mode; Dave really wanted to be well enough to perform,” a spokesperson for the Mode told the waiting 30,000 strong audience.

Gahan was rushed to hospital, but is now out and sources close to the band say he will be fit enough to perform at Thursday’s leg of the world tour – dubbed Tour of the Universe – in Istanbul, Turkey.

That means he’s almost certain to be ready for the first London leg of the tour later this month.

Depeche Mode tickets for the 30 May O2 gigs (and others throughout Europe) are still available and the band are back in town at the end of the year at the same venue.
