General Dwight D Eisenhower is preparing to give the go-ahead for the D-Day landings at Normandy on June 5, 1944 and famed Scottish meteorologist Group Captain James Stagg is summoned to Allied headquarters at Southwick House to provide his expert analysis of the weather conditions for the chosen date. American meteorologist Colonel Irving P Krick is convinced June 5 will be a sunny day but Stagg’s data strongly suggests stormy weather and he advises Eisenhower to call off the operation.
