BOB CROW has labelled “grotesque” London Underground’s practice of storing dead bodies in station cleaners’ cupboards.

Yesterday evening the body of a probable suicide case on the Victoria line was stored in a cleaners’ mess room at Euston station, while in July two cleaners turned up at work to find the body of a dead man
in a cupboard usually reserved for buckets and mops.

“This is the second incident of a corpse being stored in a cleaners’ cupboard or mess room that the RMT has discovered in the past year and the practice is wholly unacceptable,” said Crow, leader of the RMT union.

“Our union representatives are in no doubt that the storing of bodies in this grotesque fashion is down to pressure to get services back running as quickly as possible.

“There has to be a better and more dignified procedure of dealing with these individual tragedies.”

London Underground said that normal procedures had been followed.
