BROMLEY has been crowned curry capital of the UK.

The south-east London suburb has one curry house for every 853 people, a ratio that puts it ahead of more famous Indian and Pakistani food areas such as Banglatown in east London, Southall in the west and Tooting to the south.

In fact those three well-established London spice zones, along with Birmingham and its Baltis, don’t even make the top ten, according the nationwide survey by Cobra Beer.

After Bromley, the next nearest place to London in the poll was Epsom. Outside the south-east, Cardiff, Doncaster, Leicester and Reading were all high in the charts.

Cobra ran the survey to commemorate the 200th birthday of London’s Hindoostane Coffee House, Britain’s first curry restaurant. There are now 9,000.
