Lucky you; you get to stay in London for at least three days! You see, in most cheap London hotels and budget BnBs, a three-night stay is all you need to qualify for a long stay discount.

But you might need to stay for much longer than that, too; and our little guide is here to make sure you know how to get what’s right for you.

It’s most likely that you’re staying for work or other reasons rather than having a long holiday, so that is going to mean certain considerations.

First up, it’s been a long time since guests could have open-ended rooms in hotels for indefinite lengths of time, so you have to make specific bookings and, if you end up needing longer, you can rebook again.

Discounted Stays

There’s a good chance that, if you’re staying for three nights or more, you’ll be given a Long Stay discount.

And even though you might not think that your stay is particularly long, a lot of our accommodations offer such a discount. So it’s definitely worth taking it into account, as the little extra off can make all of the difference to your budget. This means you can get the extra taxi, that last drink or just afford to spend one more night with the person you’re in town to see.

All Long Stay discounts are displayed on listings where they apply, so you don’t need to do any kind of fancy searching or fill in a questionnaire to register your interest! The discount is automatically applied to relevant hotels. Nifty or what?

But before we go into the nitty-gritty of finding your new favourite cheap London hotel we should quickly go over the rules about Long Stay bookings.

As we said, you’re going to need to make a new booking if it emerges that you need to stay longer than your original dates. We recommend that you do this is soon as possible to avoid disappointment. The good news is that, if you’re staying for the same amount of time, you’re going to get another Long Stay discount, which you won’t get if you book with a different website or through the hotel directly (importantly, many hotels won’t let you book directly through them).

There are no conditions to your stay at a budget London BnB when you qualify for a Long Stay discount; it’s automatically deducted on any stay after three nights.

Different hotels offer different lengths of stay before qualifying for a Long Stay discount. Not every hotel has the three-night rule; some are seven, some are ten and some are fourteen nights (and there are other lengths of time too). So make sure to look out for red text when you search, as this is where your discount will be made clear.

Choosing the Right Accommodation for You

The time of year that you choose to visit is going to be very important in your choice of budget accommodation.

This is because, over the summer months and outside of term-time, we represent a big range of university accommodations in absolutely incredible locations (Oxford Street, London Bridge, Bankside – two minutes from the middle of the Southbank!), and they offer great Long Stay discounts on their already super-low prices.

They also contain some great features to help you save your cash. For instance, they have shared kitchen facilities, meaning that you can buy meal ingredients and cook and store them at your convenience rather than having to buy meals out all the time.

As we said though, these are only available during the summer months. If you’re travelling at other times of the year, we’ve still got plenty of options, but if you are travelling during the summer then you should make these locations a priority.

Cost Saving Accommodations

Like the university accommodations, a few normal accommodations do both Long Stay discounts and also feature many other perks for the budget-conscious.

Take Barkston Room in Earls Court. Bookings of three nights or more entitle you to an automatic 10% discount (which is an impressive discount in anyone’s books!) but there is also a shared kitchen for you to prepare your own food in and a variety of clean and comfortable room types.

You’d be near the great museum district of South Kensington as well as a raft of interesting locations, but if your business or your personal commitment is in central London, you’re only a short tube ride away. In fact, you can get to Gloucester Road tube in five minutes and from there get to the heart of the city in a further 5-10 minutes. And, with rooms starting at £12 per person pre-discount, you’re going to be making serious savings.

Or, to stay in Borough within easy walking distance to Guy’s Hospital and Kings College, try Borough Rooms. The Long Stay discount offers you 5% off stays of three nights or more, and rooms start at £18.00 per person before you’ve even factored it in!

The transport links are fantastic: the bus stop from outside the door serves Holborn, Charing Cross, Blackfriars and Greenwich (as well as many others) and you’re a short walk from Borough tube station. If you don’t mind tacking about 7 minutes onto your walk, you can be at the major transport hub of London Bridge too.

Another firm favourite among our customers is the Bridge Park Hotel in Wembley. This accommodation really has it all. There is a 5% discount on bookings of three nights or more, and further discounts available should your stay stretch to 7 or 14 nights!

Rooms start at £16.60 per person before the discount, and the hotel has a shared kitchen for cheap food prep, free WiFi throughout, free parking and a bar for you to spend your savings on a wee nightcap before you hit the hay. This budget London hotel is minutes away from a host of transport links, so getting into the centre of town won’t take long.

If you’re after a place in the heart of trendy East London, the City Stay Hotel on Bow Road offers great savings on stays of 7 nights or more and has great access to Canary Wharf, Shoreditch and the centre of town. Why would you want to stay anywhere else?!

Rooms start at £23.95 per person and the accommodation has free WiFi in all of the rooms, so you can catch up with friends in your downtime.

Central London Hotels

A lot of the Long Stay discounts are available on larger hotels, however in the centre of town there are many small hotels with fantastic offers too.

One of our most popular areas of London, due to its connectivity to absolutely everywhere as well as the sheer number of hotels there, is Kings Cross.

A great choice among our customers is the New Market House Hotel, which has its own pub (great for relaxing in the evening) and offers a 5% discount on 7 nights or more. With rooms starting at £16.67, this is a brilliant budget option for your long stay and is within walking distance of great transport links and the bustling hot spot of Camden.

Or you could try the Arriva Hotel, located just minutes from Kings Cross train stations. The Long Stay discount kicks in at 5% on bookings of three nights or more and the accommodation has free WiFi for guests to use at their leisure. Rooms start at £22.50 per person, so you can really have a budget long stay!

For something more upmarket, check out the Northumberland Hotel, which is literally on the doorstep of the train station and has superior rooms starting at £57.00 per person. They offer a 5% discount on stays of 7 nights or more.

With rooms starting at £22.50 per person and a Long Stay discount on ten nights or more, the Elmwood Hotel is a great option in a great area. A unique feature of this hotel is that they’ll throw in a free bottle of wine when you make your Long Stay booking! Can’t say fairer than that.

Kings Cross is a superb area to stay regardless of where you need to be in London due to its astonishingly good transport links. It’s where the Eurostar to Paris and Brussels leaves from, it’s served by the Northern, Victoria, Piccadilly, Metropolitan, Hammersmith and City and Circle Lines (so tube travel isn’t a worry), the buses from the station go literally everywhere in London, and trains from the mainline station will take you all over the UK.

So combined with your Long Stay discounts, this really is the perfect area to consider when making sure you get the best deal at the best cheap London hotel for you.
