WAYNE ROONEY has backed under-fire Chelsea player John Terry as the pair build-up to England’s Wednesday night match against Egypt.

“John is a leader for our team,” said Rooney.

“He hasn’t got the armband but he’s still a great player and a great leader. There are no worries about his form, that’s for sure.”

In fact, there ARE worries over Terry’s form after his below-par display for Chelsea against Manchester City on the weekend.

Before the game, Terry was deliberately snubbed by Wayne Bridge – whose ex-girlfriend, Vanessa Perroncel, Terry slept with – and during the match he was forced to field taunts from City players.

Later, City’s Craig Bellamy said that “everybody in football knows what [Terry] is like”.

The Egypt match will be Terry’s first as an England player since he was stripped of the captaincy in the wake of the Perroncel revelations.
