The Beatles legend – whose four-year marriage to Heather ended in separation in May 2006 – has turned to the words of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill to help him through his bitter court battle with his estranged wife.

He told the Radio Times: “Going through a divorce is a very painful thing. But as Winston Churchill once said, ‘If you’re going through hell, keep going!’

“But I think the only solution is to remain dignified. If I don’t keep a silence about it, I lose this idea of being dignified.”

The 65-year-old rocker also revealed he has found solace in his music during the emotionally draining time.

He said: “It’s been a difficult time. Music is the therapy for me. In fact, going through difficulties has only concentrated my desire to make good music.”

Meanwhile, Heather has been voted the World’s Biggest Gold Digger in an online poll.

The 39-year-old charity campaigner beat the late Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith – who married 89-year-old oil billionaire J. Howard Marshall – to the number one spot in the survey of 2,000 people.

OnePoll spokesman John Sewell said: “In the hype surrounding Sir Paul’s divorce, it comes as no surprise that Heather has been named the world’s biggest gold digger. To walk away with so many millions after just four years of marriage is incredible.”
