The Who musician – who is due to start a world tour with the band in October – left his travelling documents in a Budgens food store in Kent.

Luckily a fan spotted the passport but, instead of contacting police, she rang radio host Christian O’Connell – who is a friend of the legendary rocker.

Lisa Gillespie, who found the passport, said: “If I could get a message to him I would say that I didn’t mean to cause such a stir. I just wanted to get the passport back to him so he could go on tour in America.

“I contacted Virgin Radio because I know Christian is friends with Roger from some charity work they did together and he’s not the easiest person to contact.”

At first, producers of the morning show thought the call was a hoax, but after contacting the rock star’s office they discovered the passport was genuine.

O’Connell commented: “We still don’t know why he was in Budgens but we do know that Roger Harry Daltrey will be a pensioner and get a bus pass next year – let’s hope he doesn’t lose that as well!”
