Back then, Eval was one of the most famous names in the world and 90,000 fans turned up to watch as his Harley Davidson just failed to traverse 13 London buses. The crash ended Evel’s extraordinary career.

“I’m looking forward to this,” said Robbie, who will be using the same model Harley – an XR-750 – as the old man, so there’ll be no technological advantage.

“Although my dad’s jump ended with broken bones and a lot of pain, I’m confident he’ll be smiling down on this one.”

Robbie, 47, has made over 350 jumps, broken 20 world records and managed every jump his father attempted, apart from two: the London bus stunt and the Snake River Canyon jump of 1974.

After the Battersea Power Station event on 22 May, Snake River is next on the agenda.

“Daredevils are a dying breed; I’m proud to have been raised by one and to be one myself,” said Robbie.
