The Cold Mountain actress – who can next be seen starring alongside close friend George Clooney in Leatherheads – struggles to feign enthusiasm after appearing on various talk shows to promote her movies.
She said: “I’m a terrible movie star. I’m not good at it. I can pretend to be but it takes a lot out of me. It’s not my natural inclination to go, ‘Oh good! Another talk show!’ ”
Renee also revealed she tries to choose characters who bear no resemblance to herself, because she doesn’t like to feel vulnerable on the big screen.
She added: “I don’t feel safe playing the girl who looks like me. There’s not enough to hide behind. The further removed the character is from my own, the more fun and easier it is.”
The 38-year-old star recently said she feels most comfortable spending time with friends, rather than living in the public spotlight.
She said: “Spoilt rotten to me is sleeping on my best friend’s couch because I love having private moments with people that are real – that’s just how I’m made!
