According to the Daily Express, the eccentric actor has sold his Bath property for £4M, but is to hang on to a castle in Mitford, close to Bath, which he bought for £5M two years ago.

One theory is that Cage is to use the money raised on the six-bedroomed Bath house, once owned by William Pitt the Elder, to do up the castle.

But the deal could equally be part of Cage’s mass worldwide property sell-off, undertaken as part of a scheme to raise funds to pay off a £6M tax bill.

Cage has already got shot of places in the Bahamas, California, Nevada and Germany, the latter also a castle.
