JOHN GALLIANO’S alleged racist outburst in a Paris bar last month can be put down to drink and drugs, says his lawyer.

“It’s alcohol mixed with medications,” said Stephane Zerbib, who is steering the fashion designer through a police investigation of his behaviour.

“Galliano is not a racist or an anti-Semite.”

“It could happen to any one of us. Anyone can go to a bar, drink a little and get into a fight with someone. It’s alcohol mixed with medications. You’re very vulnerable when you’re in this state.”

In this “vulnerable state” Galliano is said to have called one woman an “ugly Jew-face” in Paris Fashion show week before others came forward with video examples of previous anti-Semitic tirades.

One of those clips appeared to show Galliano telling a group of strangers:

“People like you would be dead; your mothers, your forefathers, would all be f****** gassed” and “I love Hitler”.

Even Zerbib found it difficult to come up with an explanation for those outbursts.

“Of course it’s appalling,” he said.
