JK ROWLING thought her second Harry Potter book was “rubbish”, according to Xtra Factor host Konnie Huq.

Huq shot to fame as a presenter for kids TV show Blue Peter and in that capacity interviewed Rowling, who had not long before written the first book in the Potter series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Rowling signed a copy of the Philosopher’s Stone for Huq and later did the same for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the second book in the seven book cycle, but added a self-deprecating message.

“She signed me the second book and this time she wrote, ‘Dear Konnie, this is my second book’,” recalls Huq in the Daily Express.

“‘It’s quite rubbish so you can give it to the Blue Peter bring-and-buy sale if you want’.

“Now I look at it and think, ‘Oh my gosh’.”

On the plus side for Rowlling, given this display of honesty, her view that the movie of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is the best yet can be taken as much more than PR hype.
