Although season one of the period drama featured a liaison between Lady Mary Crawley – played by Michelle Dockery – and Turkish diplomat Kemal Pamuk, sources on set have revealed the passionate scenes in season two of the ITV1 programme will be much more physical.

An insider told the Daily Mirror: “Last time the liaison between Mary and her soon-to-expire lover was barely shown, this time there will be rather more bare flesh on display.”

While it is unclear who will be featured in the love scene, a number of the show’s stars have hinted that they may be involved.

Dockery said: “There’s a wedding, a funeral and a sex scene. I’m in one of those.”

Meanwhile, Brendan Coyle and Joanne Froggatt (pictured) – who play John Bates and Anna Smith – have also spoken about their on-screen relationship turning physical.

Joanne said: “Shooting love scenes is much easier now in the second series that it would have been in the first because we know each other so well now. We know what the other is thinking, we’re on the same page when it comes to the scenes.”

Brendan added: “We do see more passionate scenes between Anna and Bates this year, viewers will even get to see Anna with her hair down.

“I’m blessed to work with Joanne and do these scenes with her and it has developed almost chronologically the relationship and our friendship. It’s a great storyline.”
