SIR PAUL McCARTNEY has written a “chin up” letter to George Michael, currently in prison after being found guilty of driving while on cannabis.

“He got the letter on Monday and was really chuffed,” a source told The Sun.

“Sir Paul said he would see him soon and told George to keep his chin up. The letter was two pages long and George read it over and over again.”

Elsewhere in the letter, McCartney says that he can “empathise” with the former Wham! singer given his own time inside while on tour in Japan in 1980, also on a drug charge.

Michael is likely to be let out of Suffolk’s Highpoint jail within the next two weeks on good behaviour, as that will mark the half-way point of his sentence.
