The trio met on the red carpet before performing the 1986 rock classic, with the Prince coming to the fore for the chorus whose lyrics run:

Whooah, we’re half way there
Livin’ on a prayer
Take my hand and we’ll make it I swear
Livin’ on a prayer

Swift – who also performed hits Trouble and Love Story – said she felt honoured to perform at the palace, as she gushed: “This is my first time playing at Kensington Palace or any palace for that matter.

“I want to thank you for having me Prince William, this is just amazing.”

A number of stars including Tinie Tempah, Benedict Cumberbatch and James Blunt attended the lavish bash in support of homeless charity Centrepoint, of which Prince William is patron.

Speaking of the fundraiser, Bon Jovi said: “Nights like this happen once in a lifetime but the chance to affect change can last a lifetime. Each one of you tonight have that chance to affect change.”
