Summer Festival Of Making – Deptford

Community & Lifestyle, Family Event.

This June, Cockpit Arts - London's leading studios for contemporary craft - opens over two weekends for a Summer Festival of Making. Featuring demonstrations, craft workshops and hands-on taster sessions, this is an exclusive chance to see behind the studio doors and buy direct from London's top makers. At its two atmospheric sites - in Holborn, at the heart of Bloomsbury and in the creative South East London neighbourhood of Deptford - Cockpit is home to over 140 of London's top makers, designers and artists. Craft disciplines include - but are in no way limited to! - ceramics, weaving, shoemaking, fine jewellery and mosaic making. Throughout the two weekends, visitors can try their hand at taster workshops, see demonstrations of unusual skills and techniques, and discover some of the secrets of exceptional craftsmanship. Learn about the skills and techniques behind world-class products, including mindful embroidery, marbling on paper, jewellery, textile printing and leatherworking skills. Back for a second year, Cockpit's Secret Postcard Sale sold out in flash last time. Snap up a unique, postcard-sized artwork in Cockpit Arts' Summer fundraiser to support Cockpit's award-winning charitable work. The Festival of Making is the only time Cockpit opens to the public, making it a rare opportunity to be inspired and to buy exceptional handmade work direct from London's top makers, designers and artists.
