Nicola Kearey and Ian Carter combine traditional English folk songs and themes with electronica.

Stick in the Wheel conjure the past to point toward the future. Rooted deep in the melodies of traditional English Folk via the modern electronic sounds of East London, Stick in the Wheel's Nicola Kearey and Ian Carter use centuries-old work-songs that speak to present-day issues of class. Their inventive live performances have seen them nominated five-times for BBC Folk Awards, whilst their ongoing 'English Folk Field Recordings' project has seen them work with everyone from Richard Dawson to Martin Carthy and Nancy Kerr, to create a snapshot of the current English scene. Stick in the Wheel are innovators, and a significant notch in the tree of folk. Weaving contemporary and age-old content into their unique sonic world, expect a set that is sometimes trance-like, sometimes gritty and unexpectedly sweet. 'Follow Them True', the band's last studio album, was a MOJO and Guardian Album of the Year. They perform at Bristol Folk Festival off that back of a sold-out tour to the city.
