The first duet, Matter, began as a pivotal sequence in Origine that premiered in 2008. The second, Pure, was commissioned by the Flemish dance festival Dansand and featured in the Sadler’s Wells commission TeZukA. The third duet, Sin, grew out of Cherkaoui’s 2010 piece Babel(words), which was choreographed in partnership with Damien Jalet. Finally, Faun was originally commissioned by Sadler’s
Wells as part of the centennial celebration to Sergei Diaghilev: In the Spirit of Diaghilev. Since their original creation, these four duets have been revised, and have evolved to realise their potential as freestanding works.
In addition to these duets, the performance also includes the film Valtari. Together with director Christian Larson, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui devised this film for the Icelandic rock band Sigur Rós.
