The 16th Century epic, The Peony Pavilion, is one of the most enduring love stories in Chinese literature. Originally performed as a Kunqu Opera in a 20-hour cycle, choreographer Fei Bo has redrawn it into a sublimely enchanting and pioneering two act fusion ballet that combines Western style choreography with traditional Chinese influences.
Premiering in 2008, the work has become a gem in National Ballet of China's repertoire, and has received outstanding acclaim internationally. With an eclectic post-modern score that references Holst, Prokofiev and Debussy, and ethereal costuming, it is a sumptuous feast for the eyes, ears and emotions.
