The 27-year-old royal – who missed the 2004 Athens Olympics when Toytown was injured – admits she is slightly nervous about how the equine will hold up in the games, but is excited none-the-less.

She said: “The only thing I’m worried about now is Toytown. Before Athens I was only long-listed, so I don’t know if I would have been chosen, but now I’m in the team the important thing is to get on the plane.

“It will be fantastic to get to the Olympics, but it is a different competition.”

However, team trainer Yogi Breisner has no such worries about the potential of the horses and his riders, and is predicting a clean sweep of medals at the world-famous sporting championship.

He said: “Team gold, and individual gold, silver and bronze. That’s the target, that’s the dream.

“We have five good riders, all with good horses. If they have the best preparation we can give them and if they then perform to their best but are beaten by a better team, then good luck to whoever does it.”
