The queen first met high-powered Jacqueline Gold during a lunch celebrating women in business last year and has now invited her to a celebration at London’s St. James’ Palace marking the 175th anniversary of the Retail Trust Charity.

In 2002, the year of Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee, Gold caused controversy when she used an image of the queen to promote her ‘Wild Guide to Sex’ book.

The promotional material for the guide included a picture of the queen with a thought bubble containing the words ‘Phwoar, one must get one’.

Ann Summers stores also stocked a commemorative vibrator sold with the tagline ‘At Her Majesty’s Pleasure’.

Gold was subsequently banned from a Women of Excellence lunch at London’s Buckingham Palace, prompting her to slam the queen as “short-sighted”.

However, she finally met Elizabeth when she was invited to a function at London’s Buckingham Palace on Valentine’s Day (14.02.07) last year.

Gold recalled: “She looked at my badge and said ‘Oh, Ann Summers!’ The twinkle in her eye meant it was obvious she knew who I was.”
