Carole Middleton has reportedly been invited to the royal box at the Ascot races, further fuelling rumours Prince William and Kate will soon announce their engagement.

The former air stewardess is expected to attend Ascot Racecourse tomorrow, which is Ladies Day.

Kate is unlikely to join her mother at the race meeting – which would mark the first official encounter between the queen and her grandson’s possible future mother-in-law.

Last year, Carole was criticised for reportedly using the word “toilet” and saying “pleased to meet you” when she was introduced to the queen.

However, these claims were later denied after it was revealed Carole has never met the monarch despite previously attending the same events. The queen is believed to be keen to put the rumours behind them with a formal introduction this week.

Carole also sparked controversy after she was seen chewing gum at William’s passing out parade from Sandhurst military academy in 2006. It later emerged Carole had been using nicotine gum to help her give up smoking.
