Queen Elizabeth is set to visit Slovakia with her husband Prince Philip.

The queen and Duke of Edinburgh will make their first ever trip to the country on October 23 to 24 after being invited by Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic.

The royal couple – who will also be accompanied by David Miliband, the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs – will focus on the subjects of partnership, social inclusion and environmental issues, plus trade, investments, tourism, culture, education and science during their state visit.

On the first day of their visit, the queen and prince will meet the president along with Parliamentary Chairman Pavol Paska and Prime Minister Robert Fico.

They will then have private talks with the president and his wife, First Lady Silvia Gasparovicova, before meeting the Mayor of Bratislava, Andrej Durkovsky. The evening will be concluded by an official state dinner organised by the president and his wife.

On October 24, Elizabeth will visit Stary Smokovec, Hrebieno and Spisska Sobota in Eastern Slovakia while Philip will participate in a climate change discussion organise by Slovakia’s British Council.

The royal couple’s final task will be to officially open a friendly ice-hockey match between Slovakian team Poprad and UK team Guilford at the stadium in Poprad.
