Paul Burrell – who worked for Diana for 10 years until her death in 1997 – wants to create a castle based on the royal residences he has worked at over the years.

A source close to Burrell – who now resides in Florida – is quoted by The Sun as saying: “He wants to build a large house with features inspired by Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace.

“Paul talked about an imposing entrance, a large hall with a sweeping staircase, a stately dining room and lots of space for his own-brand furniture in his dream home.”

Burrell – who recently admitted to lying under oath during his testimony at Diana’s recent inquest – has looked at the exclusive Sugarloaf Mountain resort, which boasts its own health centre and golf course. He has also viewed another property, which is set in a luxury lakeside community.

The 49-year-old has amassed a huge fortune after cashing in on his association with the princess.

He has written three books, appeared on several reality TV shows and launched his own furniture range.
