Kate Middleton is reportedly being investigated by police after being photographed driving while talking on her mobile phone.

The 26-year-old – who is dating Prince William – could face a £60 fine and three penalty points on her license for the misdemeanour, which has been illegal since December 2003, near her family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

But a spokesman for Thames Valley Police said they may just write her a letter.

He said: “I think it will be a case of seeing if we can get any evidence from the person who took the photo.

“We will always take a look at the facts to see if any offence has been committed.

“We will look at the photo and it may be that we write to her, giving her advice on her behaviour. It’s a bit early to say yet.”

An eyewitness told Britain’s The Sun newspaper earlier this week: “She seemed to be going quite quickly. And you could quite clearly see she was on the phone.

“It is not exactly a busy road but it’s narrow in places and you need to concentrate because you never know what’s around the next corner.”

Roger Vincent, spokesman for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, added: “Using a mobile phone while driving is extremely dangerous and has cost numerous lives. We would urge Kate Middleton, and others, to realise the misery that is caused.”

Kate has so far refused to comment.
