The 23-year-old royal – who is a Lieutenant in the Household Cavalry’s Blues and Royals – spent 10 weeks in the country earlier this year, but was forced to return home when his deployment was leaked breaking a voluntary media blackout on his whereabouts.
A source is quoted in The Daily Telegraph newspaper as saying: “Harry has made no secret of the fact he wants to be there when the regiment returns to the front line next year.
“With one mission under his belt, he has the skills and experience which will make him an extremely valuable member of the battle group.”
The prince – who was the first royal to go to battle since his uncle Prince Andrew fought in the Falklands in 1982 – is due to restart training with the rest of his regiment at Windsor’s Combermere Barracks next week, before he commences a two-week exercise on Salisbury Plain.
Clarence House claimed there are no plans to send the prince to Afghanistan, but added he was ready to do his duty if it was required.
A spokesman said: “Prince Harry is committed to his career in the army and he remains ready to do whatever his required.”
