The third in line to the throne – who celebrates his 24th birthday today (15.09.08) – beat off competition from his brother Prince William and cousins Zara Philips and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie to take the accolade, with voters crediting his army service in Afghanistan, African charity work and relationship with Chelsy Davy as reasons for his appeal.

When questioned about who was the coolest young royal, Harry got 42 per cent of the votes, Zara got 35 per cent, William got 15 per cent and Eugenie and Beatrice both got four per cent, according to the poll conducted by MSN Entertainment.

The survey of over 3000 people also picked Harry and Chelsy as first choice for royal couple people most wanted a night out with, scoring 35 per cent of the vote, followed by Zara and her rugby player boyfriend Mike Tindall with 33 per cent.

William and Kate Middleton received 28 per cent, and Peter Phillips and new wife Autumn four per cent.

Harry spent 10 weeks in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province last Christmas, working as a tactical air controller but the deployment was cut short when a media blackout on reporting the news was broken by a website.

It was recently reported he is keen to return to the front line and the poll found 62 per cent believe he should be given the chance. 44 per cent of those poled said Harry’s army service was his finest moment, beaten by the 49 per cent who opted for him carrying on his mother, the late Princess Diana’s charity work.

Four per cent said it was organising last summer’s Concert for Diana, with the remaining three per cent saying his reunion with Chelsy earlier this year.

Harry – who is currently in Canada on regimental duty – also had his errors scrutinised by the poll.

His most infamous moment was wearing a Nazi outfit to a fancy dress party, gaining a massive 72 per cent of the vote, followed by being photographed drunk, getting into scuffles with photographers and splitting up with Chelsy.
