The Duchess of York, who was previously wed to Prince Andrew, fears her close relationship with her children Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie could be ruined if she ever remarried.

The flame-haired royal confessed Beatrice, 20, and 18-year-old Eugenie were horrified when the subject of her love life arose recently.

Sarah, who remains close to Andrew despite their 1996 divorce, revealed: “They said, ‘Mum, no way! You’re cool like you are!’

“So often I think that if I could go back to being the bride I was in 1986 when I married Andrew with the knowledge I have now. I was so happy and so in love.

“He’s a fantastic father and friend and you cannot put Andrew and I in a box of any description. He said I must never say this, but he said, ‘We are divorced to each other, not from each other.’ We are the happiest unmarried couple.”

Sarah, who turned 49 last week, also admits it was difficult marrying into the British royal family but she doesn’t regret her decision.

She explained to Britain’s Hello! magazine: “I had forgotten I’d also married the firm and Great Britain and the world. Had I known, I still would have married, but maybe I would have done some things differently.

“It’s not about marriage. I married the Queen Elizabeth’s best-looking son, but I didn’t marry a prince, I married my man. It was the best thing I’ve ever done.”

Earlier this month, Sarah denied she is dating Norwegian businessman Geir Frantzen.

The royal, who has been seen with the 40-year-old fish finger tycoon several times over the past year – insists the pair are simply “very good friends”.
