Princess Beatrice was asked for identification when she visited a posh Scottish nightclub.

The 20-year-old royal was attempting to enter The Jam House in Edinburgh when she was stopped and asked to prove she was old enough to enter the premises by an Australian bouncer would did not recognise her.

Beatrice reportedly handed over a card which had her full name, including her title ‘Her Royal Highness’.

Assistant Manager at The Jam House Karla Vetter said: “Our customers have to be 18 and I hope she was flattered that our man thought she might be younger.

“I immediately recognised her when she came in so I took her and her group of friends upstairs to our VIP area.”

The princess drank bottles of Peroni beer while her friends sipped cocktails. She left the club, which is owned by TV music show presenter Jools Holland, at 3am after paying her £200 bar bill.

An onlooker is quoted by The Sun as saying: “She came in with a few friends, male and female, and introduced herself as Bea. She was very courteous and polite.”
