TOM CRUISE says he and wife Katie Holmes plan to move to London.

“It would be a fantastic move,” said the star at the Leicester Square premiere of Valkyrie last night.

Katie was absolutely brilliant on Broadway and to work in the West End would be a joy. It is something to consider for both of us. I think we’d love it here, even if it is so, so cold.”

One reason for the interest in London could be its central role in the development of Scientology, the faith followed by Cruise. Scientology’s founder, L Ron Hubbard, did some of his best work while staying here.

“This is the city wherein he first defined the human spirit as an immortal being possessed of capabilities beyond anything predicted and so arrived at the axiomatic truths on which the whole of Scientology is founded,” said David Miscavige, one of Scientology’s top priests.

It’s a subject always close to the suface with Cruise and last night security staff ejected a protester for brandishing a Scientology is Evil poster.

Cruise lived in London for two years when still with previous wife Nicole Kidman and is a regular visitor but, the Scientology stuff aside, it seems if the move goes ahead, it would be more for Holmes’s theatre career than his film one.

So what will Cruise do with himself while Holmes is treading the boards? Here are a few suggestions:

1. Hire out his Top Gun skills to bomb the protesters at Heathrow airport.
2. Become a Cocktail-style bar tender and get off with women flush with credit-crunch redundancy cheques.
3. Start a new Career-Coach business. For instance, if a fellow star, Jonathan Ross for instance, got into trouble, Cruise could appear on his show to save the day.
