TRANSPORT bulletins at this time of year often tell us to avoid the roads, that the trains are full and that airports are jam-packed with passengers suffering horrendous delays.

The RAC, for instance, warns that even though 51 roadworks have been suspended, 32 will still be there for the long weekend, the busiest for road traffic of the year.

The worst jams are predicted to be on those old favourites the M25 (the subject of our egg-shaped photo), M1 and M6 and there is also a snarl-up downside to the promised good weather – around 33 per cent more people take to their cars at Easter if the sun is shining.

Airports will also be at peak business, with around two million people set to head abroad this Easter, compared with 1.5 million just two years ago.

One solution to these problems is to stay in town and enjoy some of the many Easter treats on offer.

There are Easter egg hunts and egg painting events all over London, including at Battersea Park’s zoo and the Imperial War Museum and plenty of other events besides, many of them to be found on our special Easter pages.
