At a press event on board HMS Belfast, the kings of the 1980s New Romantic movement are due to confirm their plans to reform and reveal details of what is widely expected to be a world tour.

“The boys are back in town and we can’t wait,” said lead singer Tony Hadley.

“It’s going to be brilliant, we’re very excited. But it will be very different to how we used to be. Obviously there’ll be all the hits, the nostalgia, but there will also be a new take on what Spandau Ballet are about.”

Spandau Ballet’s hits include To Cut a Long Story Short, True and Through the Barricades, moving from white funk to pop ballads in the process.

They split up 20 years ago and then spent some years in legal battles, when three of the band sued main songwriter Gary Kemp, claiming publishing royalties. Kemp won the case.
