In April this year, 96.3% of London Overground trains ran on time, equal with another London-based line, c2c. c2c serves Essex out of Fenchurch Street station.

The national average for train punctuality is 92.9%, with some lines, such as the East Coast and Virgin struggling to get even 85% of trains to run on time.

“The London Overground network is a perfect example of how investment in rail can boost services for passengers,” said Andrew Munden, of Network Rail route director.

“We will continue working together to deliver a high performing and reliable railway in the capital, every day.”

London Overground’s performance gold medal comes just four years after it was formed following the demise of the old Silverlink. Owned by Transport for London, it is now made up of five lines: the East London Line; the Gospel Oak to Barking Line; the North London Line; the West London Line and the Watford DC Line.
