The gems went AWOL during a fashion shoot Lohan did for Elle Magazine in Islington, on the actress’s visit to London last week.
“We had an allegation of theft made to us on June 8 that is being investigated,” said a spokesperson for the Met.
“The theft was reported after earrings and a necklace, believed to be diamond and estimated to be worth in the region of £250,000, were found to be missing.”
“We will be speaking to a number of people in connection with the inquiry.”
That number is reckoned to be 12, including Lohan.
The diamond bling is owned by fashion house Christian Dior, which had loaned its wares to Lohan for the shoot.
Lohan left for the US shortly after the modelling assignment.
This isn’t the first time Lohan has been linked with missing luxury goods at a fashion shoot.
Two years ago, the New York Post reported that Louis Vuitton were “furious” when Lohan, then 20, allegedly made off with a “very expensive shirt and other items”.
“Louis Vuitton had sent over some samples for her to wear in the shoot,” a source told The Post.
“Lindsay kept shoving the clothes into her bag, and a stylist’s assistant kept getting them out of the bag, only to have Lindsay keep trying to take them.
“Lindsay walked out with them and never returned calls.”
