HUNDREDS of farms across the country are taking part this weekend in the annual Open Farm Sunday, a celebration of all things agricultural, and many of those are in London, or within easy striking distance.

One such rural haven in London is Deen City farm in Merton, featured in our photo, which will host a sheep shearing session and a demo of wool weaving.

Another within the city limits, this time north of the river, is Farmer Gow’s in Farringdon, where they’ll have a 10% discount for Open Farm Sunday visitors, who’ll have the chance to walk goats and ferrets, collect eggs and handle chicks.

Or howabout the award-winning Cogges Manor Farm Museum in possible next Prime Minister David Cameron’s constituency at Witney, an hour or so up the M40?

They’re offering free entry between 10am and noon with a farm trail, hand-milking and pig feeding included.

Many more straw-filled options are to be found on the Open Farm Sunday website.

Open Farm Sunday is sponsored by Warburtons, the bread people.
