David Wiseman is a good 11-year-old Jewish boy who lives in a quiet street with his forceful workaholic father Victor and highly strung mother Ruth. When a Jamaican family moves in next door and sets up a cricket net in the back garden, David thinks all of his prayers have been answered. He quickly befriends the man of the house, Dennis, and pretty eldest daughter Judy, who agree to teach the boy the basics of the sport. However, racism flourishes in the street.
