Shot over the course of six years, this documentary travels to Sudan before the 2011 referendum, which resulted in the creation of South Sudan and essentially divided the predominantly Christian population from Muslims. As the locals come to terms with this separation and new political alliances are forged, the film meets locals and outsiders including Chinese oil workers, UN peacekeepers, Sudanese warlords and American evangelists to explore the birth of a nation from the inside.
