When renowned painter Jean-Baptiste dies, and asks to be buried in the remote village of Limoges, all of his friends and relatives board the train from Paris to accompany the coffin to its final resting place. Among the mourners are Jean-Baptiste’s twin brother Lucien, his former lovers Francois, Thierry and Bruno, and a transvestite called Viviane who hankers for a conventional marriage. Over the course of the traumatic day, the mourners come into conflict, forcing them to resolve long-standing problems before they take the train back home to the capital.
