It is 1942 and 11-year-old Joseph Weisman wakes one morning to discover that he must wear a gold star on his jacket. Some of his friends and neighbours look at the symbol sewn on his jacket and treat him with the same kindness and compassion, others turn against him in Nazi-occupied Paris. The fragile balance of power is shattered on July 16, when the local police begin to round up the Jews under the orders of the Germans.
